On The Water

An oasis for water lovers, active lifestylers and nature enthusiasts alike, Yarrawonga is set on the shores of impressive Lake Mulwala, a 439km2 man-made water reservoir fed by the mighty Murray River.

Cruises, fishing, kayaking, sailing, swimming, waterskiing and more, explore the picturesque waterways up close and book a cruise or hire a canoe or kayak for a day on the water. Don’t forget to bring along snacks and a hamper to soak up the sun by the water’s edge. Set the alarm early and be rewarded with spectacular views for sunrise, or enjoy the peace and tranquility till sunset.

Yarrawonga Foreshore Recreational Trail

Located conveniently near the township of Yarrawonga and on the banks of the lake, there’s a pleasant walk with a glimpse of the town’s history across different interest points. Come across old paddle steamer wheels, With children’s playgrounds, a Water slide and Splash Park, it makes a great day out for kids of all ages.

Don’t forget about the Yarrawonga Farmers & Craft Market (every 4th Sunday of the month), a strictly ‘Make it – Bake it – Sew it – Grow it market’. Here you can find a large diversity of locally produced wine, nuts, olives stonefruit, apples honey and more. The rich farm produce at this market is a foodie’s heaven and one not to be missed!

Yarrawonga-Mulwala Pioneer Museum

Step back into Australian history and explore one of the largest and most comprehensive exhibits of the early pioneering days of the district in Australia. The museum preserves local and rural history, and has a large display of cars, trucks, farming machinery, aircraft, war history, clothing and sports.

A highlight of the museum’s collection is a biplane built by local pioneer aviator Douglas Sloane in 1913, and has a fascinating story that involves the beginnings of the Royal Australian Air Force.
